LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Lafayette is gaining recognition as a hub for technology and healthcare innovation. New developments are underway as a drone logistics provider expands into the city.
The Lafayette Economic Development Authority announced that Blueflite, a drone logistics provider, has decided to expand its operations into Lafayette. The move is supported by a $250,000 investment from the Ochsner Louisiana Innovation Fund, which aids early-stage health companies in the state.
Blueflite’s operations in Lafayette will focus on developing drone technology for medical logistics and emergency response.
“Because there’s a really strong and vibrant healthcare sector, and we see a lot of opportunity,” said Frank Knoppel, CEO and founder of Blueflite. “We already work with companies like Acadian Ambulance and Ochsner Health, and to look at the application of drones in the healthcare industry. So for us, obviously, we want to be close to our partners and, too, there’s additional opportunity here through the Opportunity Machine, where we look at developing some more of our software offering and have first people join our team here in Lafayette.”
